Topsy Turvy Yields Tomato-like Object!

Topsy Turvy Update:

Several weeks ago I reported that I had planted a few tomato plants in one of those upside-down growers that are advertised all over TV. The idea was that since I''ve had little luck growing plants rightside-up, maybe growing them upside down would do the trick.

I am pleased to report that my Topsy Turvy has yielded a reddish, oblong tomato-like object. Two of them actually. And there are other green globular things I take to be tomato still clinging to life. The plant itself doesn't look so good. Leggy, I think is the way one reader put it. Scraggly is another word that works. But tomatoes are growing the the slugs can't get at them without repelling down from a roof rafter.

My rightside-up cherry tomato plant that tried to commit suicide a few weeks ago by jumping off the deck, is still in intensive care. I rescued it from the broken pot, replanted it, pruned all the broken branches back and put it on a quiet part of the deck where I hope it will rekindle its zeal for life.

I'm not ready to declare the Charleyworld Curse of the Brown Thumb is dead, but the fact that some manner of fruit is being grown under my care is encouraging.

This is good news. My kids got excited when they saw the commercial because I have been saying that I want to plant tomatoes for ages.We ordered it from the internet site and are awaiting its arrival. Perhaps success is just around the corner.

Impressive, Charley-man! I see that where there were about six tomato-like objects in one photo, it looks like it went down to about two in the other photo. I assume some of them became the featured guests in a fried-green tomato party.

Missed the blog about the attempted suicide of your cherry tomato plant. Seems to be a rather ungrateful reaction to the the nice digs and view you provided, but I hope that's not a basil in the background because it may try it again.

I am glad to see that my Topsy Turvy plants are not the only scraggly ones around. I made my own upside down planters a few years ago after the first time I saw the Topsy Turvy on QVC - the next year I decided to try the "real McCoy." Works great. I got a decent yeild from each plant, for being a scraggly plant, and for someone who has a black thumb. Really is the only thing that has ever not died on me. Thanks for the pics.
